Heavy metal analysis of Mongolian medicine :HS XRF with Fast FP
2022-08-25 13:39:32   Mongolian medicine X-ray

Abstract
Mongolian medicine is the crystallization of Mongolian traditional nomadic culture, created, accumulated and selected by Mongolian people in the long-term practice of fighting nature and diseases for thousands of years. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry was first applied to the analysis of metal elements in the pharmaceutical preparations of ethnic compounds, and the contents of Pb, Hg, As, Cr, Fe, Cu, Ba and Cd in five traditional Mongolian medicines were determined. Compared the experimental results with those obtained by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). It is shown that the relative standard deviation of XRF precision test is between 5.49~20.0% when the metal element content is lower than 2.0 mg/kg. The RSD of precision test is less than 4.96% when the content is more than 2.0 mg/kg. All the quantitation limits of As, Cd and Pb are below 0.1 ppm, while those of Cr, Cu, Ba and Hg are below 1ppm, and that of Fe is 1.525 ppm. The recovery rate of mercury is low (68.4%) because of its volatility, and the recovery rates of other seven elements are all within 85~130%. Under the premise of ensuring the accuracy and precision of determination, XRF method is faster, simpler and more nondestructive than ICP/MS, and is an ideal method for heavy metal analysis.
